A tax is a payment that people make to their government. The government uses this money to fund services.

Property taxes are generally used to fund services for the community. Therefore, what you pay for living in the town pays for the town's services.

For example, the taxes you pay your town will help pay for building schools, paying teachers, buying school supplies, and keeping the school running.
